Softball PEI Minor League Rules  - As of April 2024

Softball PEI Minor League Rules 
All Minor Leagues and teams will follow the most recent and up to date version of Softball Canada rules. Listed below are some special operating rules (SOR) specific to Softball PEI.

  • All Minor Softball players must wear a cage on their batting helmets.
  • Fielding masks will be required in all positions for U13 and below.
  • Fielding masks will be optional for outfielders at U15 and above; required in all other positions
  • Fielding masks will be optional for athletes playing in 18+ leagues
  • Fielding mask rules are still in effect when travelling to out of province tournaments.
  • Minimum roster size of 11 players required
  • All Minor players may only play in one Provincial per season. (Per division)
  • Eastern Canadian Qualifying tournaments will follow Softball Canada/Eastern Canadian rules with regards to defensive and batting substitutions.

All Games will have a 2-hour time limit with no new inning starting after the 1 hour and 45 minute mark. Inning must be announced as last inning by the umpire prior to the start of the inning. If the game starts late, the 1 hour 45-minute time limit is from the time the game started, not the initial scheduled start time. The final inning is now an open inning. Umpires will have the final say on the interpretation of this rule.

All canceled games are to be rescheduled within 72 hours by the home team. If not rescheduled within 72 hours, the canceling team will be invoiced a $250 fee

All league games to be played by end of season to qualify for provincials

AP PLAYERS:

  •  Teams will identify APs by July 15, 2024. Only approved APs can be used after this date.

  • AP forms will be signed by both coaches (lower level coach and upper level coach) as well as player/parent.

  • Teams can use APs to bring the roster to 11 players.

  • APs cannot be pulled across from same level teams.

  • Players can only AP to one team for the season

  • There will be no maximum amount of games an AP can play, as long APs are only be used to bring the roster up to 11.

  • Approved APs will be eligible to play in provincials ONLY if the higher level teams provincials are on a different weekend than the lower level team.

  • APs must make their regular team a priority and shall not miss their own practices or games to play with a higher level team unless approved by the coach of the lower team.

  • Players can AP to the following levels:

    • A to higher level team in A and AA
    • AA to higher level team in AA

 

Mercy Rule for U11 and older

  1. 15 runs after 3 innings 
  2. 10 runs after 4 innings
  3. 7 runs after 5 innings
